This long time ranger at Yosemite served from 1931-1994. He was very influenced by John Muir, even naming his son after him. He famously replied to the question what would he do if he had only one day to see Yosemite, "I'd sit by the Merced River and cry." He has received the awards National Park Service Meritorious Service Award and Yosemite award.
